Emails we send you and your customers
Short answer
We email your team about money, disputes, your account and security, and your customers about their payments. Settings → Notifications lists what you can change, and Settings → Customer emails covers receipts. In this article
To you and your team
| About | For example |
|---|---|
| Payments | A payment is received, or needs review |
| Disputes | A chargeback or inquiry opens, its deadline is near, it is decided |
| Your money | A payout is sent, fails or comes back, your balance goes negative |
| Your account | Your application is decided, your bank details change |
| Your team and security | Someone joins or leaves, a sign-in from a new device, a live secret key is created |
Each person chooses for themselves, business by business, under Settings → Notifications: an email, a note in the dashboard’s inbox, or both.
Some cannot be turned off, for anyone who gets them: a payout that fails or comes back, your balance going negative, changes to your payout bank details, a live secret key made or revoked, a webhook endpoint switched off, and anything about your own sign-in. A few more are always on for your business’s owner: disputes, your payouts being paused or resumed, a change to your payout schedule, a balance adjustment, your application, and your account being restricted. Everything else, such as a payment being received or a payout being sent, can be turned off.
In Test mode, only security and developer notices are emailed. The rest appear in the inbox.
To your customers
- A receipt when their card payment succeeds.
- A refund receipt when you refund them.
- Invoices you send, and reminders until they are paid.
Your owner or an administrator can turn either kind of receipt off under Settings → Customer emails. We recommend leaving both on: a customer with a receipt recognises the charge later, which heads off chargebacks.
In Test mode, emails to customers go only to your own team’s addresses.
