Refund a payment, in full or in part

Short answer

Open the payment in the dashboard, press Refund this payment, then confirm the amount and the reason. A refund cannot be undone, so check the amount first.

Make the refund

  1. Open Payments in the dashboard and choose the payment.
  2. Press Refund this payment.
  3. Check the Amount. It starts at everything that is left to refund. Lower it for a part refund.
  4. Choose a Reason.
  5. Press the Refund button, which shows the amount.

The payment’s page then says the refund was made, and lists it under Refunds.

Things to know

  • The button appears on a payment that succeeded and still has something left to refund, for a role that can refund.
  • You can make several part refunds on one payment, up to what was paid.
  • We email your customer a refund receipt if we have their address. The payment’s page shows whether it was sent.
  • The refund comes out of your Available balance, and our fee comes back with it, in proportion, unless your rate keeps it.
  • A refund does not change the payment’s status. It stays as it was, and shows how much was refunded.
  • A refund of a US-dollar payment is in US dollars, and your customer’s card is credited in Belize dollars at the rate the payment was taken at.

If the button is missing

Your role may not include refunds. Ask your business’s owner or an administrator to do it, or to change your role.

A refund made at the bank

If someone refunds a payment directly at the bank, we find it when we next check that payment with the bank, and it appears here too. Do not refund it again.
