Void an invoice or write it off
Short answer
Press Void when an invoice should never have been sent, and Write off when it was owed but you will not collect it. Both stop your customer paying it and stop the reminders.Which to choose
| Press | When | It then says |
|---|---|---|
| Void | The invoice was a mistake, and nothing was owed. | Void |
| Write off | The money was owed, and you will not collect it. | Uncollectible |
Both are on the invoice’s page while it is open, and neither can be undone.
After you void it
The invoice keeps its number and stays on record. Your customer’s link says no payment is due.
An invoice that has received any money cannot be voided. Refund the payment first, then void it, or write it off instead.
After you write it off
Your customer’s link says the invoice is no longer accepting payment, and asks them to contact you.
A draft
A draft has its own button, Discard. Your customer never saw it, and it never had a number.
