Partial payments

Short answer

Tick Let the customer pay part of it when you make the invoice, and your customer can pay any amount up to what is owed. The rest stays outstanding until they pay it.

Allow it

On New invoice, tick Let the customer pay part of it before you press Create draft. You cannot change it afterwards, so make a new draft if you forget.

The invoice’s page says Allowed or Whole amount only under Partial payment.

What your customer sees

The page they pay on has an Amount to pay, filled in with the whole balance. They can lower it, and pay the rest another time from the same link.

What you see

  • Paid and Due on the invoice show how much has come in and what is left.
  • Each payment is listed under Payments against this invoice.
  • The invoice says Open, or Overdue after its due date, until the last of it is paid. Then it says Paid.

Reminders carry on while anything is owed.

If you will not get the rest

Press Write off. An invoice that has received money cannot be voided. Void an invoice or write it off explains the difference.
