Take a payment over the phone

Short answer

Send your customer a payment link or an invoice while you are on the call, and they pay by card on their own phone or computer. There is nowhere for you to type their card number, on purpose.

Send them something to pay

  • For something you sell often: send the payment link in a WhatsApp message, a text or an email.
  • For a bill made out to them: send an invoice. It has a number and a due date, and they can pay it later.
  • For an amount you agree on the call: use a link whose price lets the customer choose the amount, and tell them what to enter.

Stay on the line if they want help. The payment appears under Payments, and it is done when it says Paid.

Why you cannot type their card

Your customer types their card on a secure page hosted by the bank, and the number never reaches you or us. That is what keeps you on the shortest card security questionnaire, "PCI SAQ A for you". A card number read out over the phone would undo it, so do not write one down, and do not ask for one.
