What happens to my money during a dispute
Short answer
A chargeback takes the disputed amount out of your Available balance straight away, and your balance can go below zero. If you win it comes back; if you lose it stays gone.In this article
Step by step
| When | What happens to your balance |
|---|---|
| A query opens | Nothing. No money is held. |
| A chargeback opens | The disputed amount leaves Available and is held. |
| You win | The same amount comes back to Available and rides into your next payout. |
| You lose | Nothing further. It left when the chargeback opened. |
The dispute’s page shows the amount under Held from your balance, and lists what the dispute did under Balance transactions.
Amounts held are in Belize dollars, at the rate the payment was taken at.
Why your balance can go below zero
A chargeback usually arrives weeks after the payment, when the money has already been paid out to you. There is often nothing left in Available to take, so the figure goes below zero.
That figure is the amount you owe. It is not an error, and nothing needs correcting.
What a negative balance means for payouts
No payout is sent until your new payments bring your balance back above zero. Those payments cover the debt first, and whatever is left after that is paid out as usual.
Is there a fee?
A lost chargeback may carry a handling fee. It is not automatic and it is not a percentage: a person decides it, and if there is one, it appears on the dispute. There is never a fee on a dispute you won.
