# Glossary

What the words on your dashboard and in this help centre mean, in plain English.

## Payments

### Payment

Money a customer pays you by card. Its page shows its status, from Incomplete to Paid.

### Payment link

One web address that takes a payment, over and over. You can message it or print it as a QR code.

### Invoice

A bill with a number and a due date, emailed to one customer with a page to pay on.

### Hold

Money set aside on a card without being taken yet. You then charge it, or release it. Developers and banks call the hold an authorisation, and charging it a capture.

### The bank

The bank that processes our card payments, and hosts the secure page where your customer types their card. The bank that issued your customer’s card is the customer’s own bank, and it can be a different one.

### Decline

The customer’s own bank saying no to a payment.

### 3-D Secure

A step where the customer’s own bank asks them to confirm it is really them.

### Customer

A record of someone who pays you, with their email address.

### Product and price

What you sell, and what it costs. A payment link charges a price, and a price cannot be changed once it exists.

### BZ$ and US$

Belize dollars and US dollars. Cards are always charged in Belize dollars, at the fixed rate of BZ$2.00 to US$1.00.

### GST

Belize’s General Sales Tax. You can add it to an invoice’s lines.

## Your money

### Balance

What we hold for you. It has three parts: Pending, Available and In transit.

### Pending

Money from a payment that is still waiting out its delay.

### Available

Money that goes in your next payout.

### In transit

Money on its way to your bank.

### Settlement delay

How long a payment waits in Pending before it becomes Available.

### Payout

A transfer of your whole Available balance to your bank account.

### Negative balance

A balance below zero, usually from a chargeback. It is what you owe, and no payout is sent until it recovers.

### Refund

Money you give back to a customer, in full or in part.

### Reversal

Cancelling a charge the bank has not settled yet. It may never appear on the customer’s statement.

## Disputes

### Dispute

A customer asking their bank to take a payment back. It is either a query or a chargeback.

### Query

The customer’s bank asking a question. No money is held. Also called an inquiry.

### Chargeback

The bank asking to take the money back. The amount leaves your balance until the bank decides.

### Evidence

What you send to show a payment was fair, such as a receipt or your messages with the customer.

## Your account

### Test mode

A practice copy of your account, where no real money moves.

### Live mode

The real thing, once we have verified your business.

### Activation

Giving us the details we need to verify your business, so you can take real money.

### Role

What someone on your team can see and do.

### Two-step verification

A six-digit code from an authenticator app, on top of your password or passkey.

### Passkey

Signing in with your face, fingerprint or device PIN instead of a password.

### Backup code

A single-use code that resets two-step verification when you lose your authenticator app.

### RRN

A reference number the bank uses for a card payment. Its full name is retrieval reference number.

## For your developer

### API key

A long secret that lets a developer’s code act for your business. Keep it private.

### Webhook

A message we send to your developer’s system when something happens, such as when a customer pays.

### Metadata

Your own labels on a payment, such as an order number.

### Idempotency

A safeguard that stops the same request happening twice if it is sent twice.

## Card security

### PCI DSS

The card industry’s security rules for anyone who handles card numbers.

### SAQ A

The shortest PCI questionnaire, for businesses whose customers type their card on someone else’s page. It is why we say "PCI SAQ A for you".
